Have you ever peeled an onion? I mean the kind that makes you tear up so bad you can’t hardly take it? The fumes flow up into your face and then before you know it you are crying like a baby do to the painful fumes in your eyes. You know you have to peel it, but you don’t want to because you know it will bring you to tears, but it is so good to have an onion in your casserole so you trudge through knowing the end result will taste so good!
Lately God has been peeling back the stuff in my life. Alot of times I know I need to let him peel it, but I don’t want to deal with the fumes! I know they will bring out things that are painful and so alot of times I just stuff things down inside and do nothing with it. These are the things that eventually bring us to depression or anxiety or worry. We feel facing it is too hard and ignoring it is easy until the feelings of worry or anxiety start to take us over and we’re not sure where we have arrived.
When God peels our onion He is peeling back the things that He knows pull us back. The things that really control us and are not good for us. God wants us to be free in Him and he knows if he can gently pull away the things that destroy us we can have peace and accept His love even deeper than before. We find hope and are reaffirmed of God’s love one more time! He is our healer, our friend, our counselor, our provide. He wants to put His arms around us and let us know how much He loves us! This is one of the ways He does it. By purging our life to give us new life in Him.
Allow God to peel your onion. Yes, you might cry once you tell Him how you really feel, but He will reassure you who you are in Him! That your past does not define you. That you are a child of the King! Royalty! Allow God to search your heart and help you with the deeper things that you may not know about. The more he peels, the more you are free to be who He created you to be from the very beginning!
If you don’t know what is causing your worry, cry out to God and He will help you see. He knows your heart even better than you do and he will show you what it is. Then cry out to him! He will heal your heart. He will remind you that you are His! Isn’t it great to know that you belong to God? That He is your redeemer and friend?
